IHC Committees

Board Development and Personnel.  To develop and orient a vital, working volunteer board.  Provide evaluative assistance to staff and board to further IHC programming and objectives.  Serve as the nominating committee for board members and officers.  – Bill Dollard & Dave Howell, Co-Chair

Education & Research.  Provide general educational opportunities for equine owners.  The committee's projects include presenting horsemen's conferences and clinics for youth and adults; developing a resource center for use by equine owners; and administering and promoting the scholarship award programs of the Indiana Horse Council which support educational opportunities for youth and adults in Indiana. – Jim Kirkham & Yvette Rollins, Co-Chair

Equine Assisted Programs.  The purpose of the IHC Committee for Equine Assisted Programs (therapeutic riding and driving) is to educate the public in the benefits of equine assisted activities; encourage quality program standards; support existing and new center through clinics, educational programs and mentoring; and inform horse owners of the benefits of a "second career" for their horse in a therapeutic riding program. – Ginger Dierdorf & Donna McDowell, Co-Chair

Equine Welfare.  The IHC Equine Welfare committee serves as a resource for addressing welfare issues within the Indiana equine community that will positively affect the quality and performance of equines in a variety of areas including emergency disaster response, slaughter, safe transportation and rescue.  –  Dr. Jodi Lovejoy & Carol Habig, DVM, Co-Chair

Youth Development & 4-H.  Youth organizations, such as Future Farmers of America, United States Pony Club, Rodeo, Breed Associations, 4-H and others can benefit from IHC assisted programming representing youth interests at the local, state and national level. – Wes Morelock, Chair

Finance.  To oversee IHC's financial resources, including investments, manage monthly, annual and long range budgetary needs.  To receive committee budget requests and submit proposed annual budgets to Board of Directors.  Monitor financial contracts and grants.  Recommend and review financial policies for IHC.  Review audited and unaudited financial reports, and report audit findings to the Board of Directors. –  Katie Teeters, Chair

Governmental Affairs.  Governmental Affairs works to influence legislation and agency regulations for the benefit of the horse industry and horse owners in all areas pertaining to equine activities, welfare, land and trail use.  – Sheila Landes Chair

Hoosier Horse Fair & Expo.  Organize, manage and plan this annual three day event, operated and staffed by more than 200 volunteers.  The HHF&E represents the best in entertainment, educational programming and access to a variety of equine resources.  Special exhibitions showcasing numerous breeds and riding disciplines, as well as a trade show with 250+ commercial exhibitors are also part of this world-class event. – Dave Caudill and Lynn Carey, Co-Chairs

Long Range Planning.  Develop strategic planning to promote active involvement and continued progress toward the Council's vision and mission, encompassing present and future roles, within the Indiana Equine industry.  –  Jack Haefling & Bill Hurt, Co-Chair

Marketing.  Evaluate and provide the Council with marketing strategies and promotional activities.  Interact with associate organizations, media, government agencies and others to increase visibility for the IHC and awareness of the Indiana equine industry. – Joe Polo & Jack Haefling, Co-Chair

Membership.  Plans and implements membership drive and new member information and orientation.  Reviews proposals for new member services, makes recommendations to the board and works with association staff to implement and monitor member services. –  Arlene Smoot, Chair

Racing.  Promote development within the racing community in order to foster economic growth and productivity. – Todd Medley, Chair

Trails, Land Use and Zoning.  Provide an interactive forum between legislators, trail organizations and government agencies to preserve, improve and expand areas for equestrian recreation, land use and zoning.  –  Yvette Anderson-Rollins & Kim Humphries, Co-Chair
