Indiana Equine Neglect Reporting
Calls to report suspected cases of equine neglect may be directed to one
of the following organizations:
Indiana Horse Council: 317-692-7141
(all calls will be documented in case report form);
Indiana State Board of Animal Health: 317-227-0300;
Or
local county Sheriff Department.

Individuals wishing to remain anonymous when
reporting concerns may contact the Indiana Horse Council and the
office will contact appropriate authorities.

Local authorities may contact the Indiana Horse
Council to request educational, resource (i.e. hay, farrier,
hauling, etc.), or assistance in evaluating animal condition/s and
possible solutions (outside of legal recourse). Should the officer
deem it necessary to prosecute it is recommended that contact be
made with the Indiana Board of Animal Health to request an official
field veterinarian review.
NOTE:
Equine professionals may only assist within the jurisdiction of local
authorities, and with accompanying authorities.
Animals with a body
condition score of 1-2 should be considered critical and require
immediate action. Animals with a body condition score of 3 should be
seen within 1 week. When contacting the above organization, please
indicate immediate action requested.

growing network of horse related caretakers. Don't have room to
foster? Sign up to be a part of services and supplies. We
are looking for people who are able to provide trailering, farrier work,
equipment, and supplies on a case by case basis when the need arises.
