Committee News

IHC Board Development & Personnel Committee

Nomination: An individual may be nominated for election as a director by a nominating committee of the board or from the floor at a meeting of members at which directors are elected. If you are interested in any of these committees, please let us know.

IHC Equine Assisted Program Committee

Therapeutic riding centers and equine assisted programs welcome donations of horses, tack or monetary contributions. Donations may be tax deductible. For more information on making donations or to learn more about the program, please contact the current committee chairperson.

 

 

IHC Youth Development & 4H Committee

This committee focus on support and building the future of the horse industry by nurturing equine-based youth programs. The committee strives to bring youth involvement to the various aspects of IHC.

 

 

IHC FINANCE COMMITTEE

Fiduciary responsibility is the focus of this committee, which oversees the budget for the Indiana Horse Council, reporting on income, expenses and providing guidance on the status of various financial obligations.

Scholarships are available for students attending technical school, working towards a bachelor's degree, or are in graduate school.

IHC Governmental Affairs Committee

Keeping the concerns of horse owners and the equine industry in the forefront of Indiana’s legislatures is the goal of this committee. Areas such as trail rights and development, breeding, racing and zoning are some of the many areas involved.

The Hoosier Horse Fair & Expo is the single largest fundraising event hosted by the Indiana Horse Council. Proceeds from this signature event fund educational workshops, scholarship programs, disaster relief, rescue efforts and much more.

IHC MARKETING COMMITTEE

The Marketing Committee oversees the IHC website, social media, print communications and the IHC brand.  Articles for publication may be submitted to the committee chair for review (author understands that articles may be edited or abbreviated). News, events, shows and other equine related happenings may be forwarded to the committee chair for inclusion on the IHC calendar (pending review and approval).

Strengthening the numbers of both individual and business/association members is the goal of the Membership Committee. The committee also seeks to expand the benefits offered to its members by partnering with businesses.

IHC RACING COMMITTEE

The Racing committee works to keep the horse industry informed about what is happening on the track and track-side. It assists with legislative issues, safety, gambling and any other areas that affect the racing industry.

IHC Octoberfest Charity Horse Show

The IHC Octoberfest Charity Horse Show committee is Chaired by Victoria Hill with Patty Davis and Renetta Trissel as right and left hands.  If you are interested in helping with the OCHS please email Victoria at appaloosa_queen@yahoo.com.

 

 

IHC TRAILS, LAND USE & 

ZONING COMMITTEE

The trails committee works in conjunction with the Indiana Trail Riders Association and the Hoosier Backcountry Horsemen to build, protect and preserve the trails Hoosier riders enjoy. The committee also works with the Department of Natural Resources and the National Forestry Service in the management of trails. The committee is involved a number of trail-focused educational conferences both regionally and nationally.

 

IHC EQUINE WELFARE COMMITTEE

  • Indiana Equine Neglect Reporting Calls to report suspected cases of equine neglect may be directed to one of the following organizations: 

 

           Indiana Horse Council: 

           (all calls will be documented in case report form);

 

           Indiana State Board of Animal Health: 

           317-544-2400 (or 317-227-0300)

 

          Or local county Sheriff Department.  

 

  • Individuals wishing to remain anonymous when reporting concerns may contact the Indiana Horse Council and the office will contact appropriate authorities. 

  • Local authorities may contact the Indiana Horse Council to request education, resource (i.e. hay, farrier, hauling, etc.), or assistance in evaluating animal condition/s and possible solutions (outside of legal recourse). Should the officer deem it necessary to prosecute, IHC recommends that contact be made with the Indiana Board of Animal Health to request an official field veterinarian review. 

  • NOTE: Equine professionals may only assist within the jurisdiction of local authorities, and with accompanying authorities. 

  • Animals with a body condition score of 1-2 should be considered critical and require immediate action. Animals with a body condition score of 3 should be seen within 1 week. When contacting the above organization, please indicate immediate action requested.
